It was no surprise for me that The Greatest Showman got nominated for an Oscar award in Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures . It was brilliantly acted and filmed. It was released on December 8, 2017. It is rated PG and it is about an hour and a half.
Showman was produced by Laurence Mark, Peter Chernin, and Jenno Topping. It took about 9 years to hire the actors, actresses, all the makeup artists, and all the other important staff. I took a very long time to learn Trapeze and tricks they had to do on the show. The producers didn't want to use stunt actors. But the wait was worth it. After 9 years, they successfully produced this outstanding movie.
The actors and actresses that made this movie happen were amazing. The main characters are P.T. Barnum played by Hugh Jackman, Phillip Carlyle by Zac Efron, Anne Wheeler by Zendaya, and Lettie Lutz by Keala Settle. The plot line of this movie is interesting, it keeps you intrigued with the show and makes you feel happiness, sadness, and anger throughout the movie.
The film is based upon a true story, the producers just added some extra acts. The movie tells the story of the success of P.T. Barnum and how he became the top name in the circus world. The movie really got the important parts right and shows them in a way that hooks most people from ages 8 and up.
The costumes that were used through the movie really make you feel like you are a part of the show, and help you realize what it was like in the 19th century. Ellen Mirojnick is the head costume designer for the movie. She and her crew handmade roughly 85% of the costumes. She loved using bright and vibrant colors that catch the viewer's attention. The costumes really show the look and feel of the time period. They really help each character show their personality and who they are as a character. Each character is dressed to their personality. For example Anne Wheeler who was played by Zendaya was dressed in bright colors that fit her and made her stand out while she was a Trapeze artist.
The music producers that produced the hit La La Land also wrote the songs in this movie. Benj Pasek & Justin Paul produced some of the songs in The Greatest Showman. They created songs that are modern, but portray the effect of the 19th century. The songs have deep meanings and really catch the audience's attention. One song, “This is Me,” describes how a singer overcame her self doubt and how she learned to love herself.
The makeup in the movie is amazing. They make every character look different and original. It is really a tremendous achievement; they show the audience the real truth about what some people actually looked like. They make the characters look so real and really made you think that the makeup was their actual look or body. They made the bearded lady look so real like it was actually her beard.
The movie, overall, was great. It was clear and well portrayed. It was super bright and made you feel a wide range of emotions. It was definitely a 10 out 10. It really did help me realize how P.T. Barnum became so popular and how he changed peoples lives. He allowed people who weren't ‘normal’ to have lives and to make a living. He helped give them a purpose, even if that meant getting laughed at all the time.
The producers and actors of this film do a great job of showing how these misfits overcame their problems and learned to believe in themselves. It truly is inspirational.
